La (2) de Apolo will be the venue that welcomes the first visit of the new post-millennial pop star
It will be the only opportunity to see the artist in intimate format before she really takes off
There is no other artist on the scene currently who has more presence than Billie Eilish. The numbers speak for themselves: at only sixteen years old, one EP and several singles, her hundreds of millions of streams, with each new step she takes she attracts new followers (on Instagram alone she has over 7 million) and no challenge is too great. She is charismatic, magnetic, intimidating, prodigiously precocious and is unlike anybody else: some have labeled her style as alternative trap, like the dark side of pop. It is as if Lana del Rey had thrown herself into urban music with Lorde’s melodic precision. But the real merit is that Billie Eilish, at the age of 16, already sounds exclusively like Billie Eilish.
And although the future of pop has her name on it, this Los Angeles artist born in 2001 is already an indisputable reality. Maybe because her first single, Ocean Eyes, appeared when she was only 13 (in two weeks it had over 2 million streams). Maybe because she already has a string of iconic videos, which are aesthetically minimalist but at the same time deliver a well-aimed punch. Maybe because since that first song, each step has been one step further: in 2017 her first EP, don’t smile at me, that included a collaboration with Vince Staples; in 2018 teaming up with Khalid to release the powerful single, lovely, and in the first tracks of what could be her album, which has not yet been announced.
She herself sings “you should see me in a crown” on one of these singles. You really should see her in a crown because Billie Eilish is already a queen. This is why, having the opportunity to see her in such an intimate venue as La (2) de Apolo on 9th March, in what will be her first visit to Spain, is such an incredible opportunity that it seems unbelievable. Also she will be accompanied by EarthGang, the Atlanta hip hop duo and by FINNEAS, her brother Finneas O’Connell’s musical project. And this is only the beginning.
