The band of Marcos García (Antibalas) and Geoff Mann will be back in October after their show at Primavera Sound
They will present their very recently released new album, You Will Know Nothing, in Madrid (Moby Dick) and Barcelona (Razzmatazz 3)
What would happen if Black Sabbath made Afrobeat? If Fela Kuti had decided that metal was his thing? Those are the questions that Marcos García and Geoff Mann asked themselves a couple of years ago, and since then they have not looked back. With an eponymous debut released last year that was on Rough Trade and BBC Radio 6’s best of 2017 lists, Here Lies Man today adds another string to their bow with the release of their new record, You Will Know Nothing, on which their Afrobeat with horns expands and gains strength while tracing new horizons.
It is no coincidence that the Los Angeles quintet excels at building gravelly riffs on African beats as Garcia and Will Rast come from the renowned New York Afrobeat collective Antibalas and Geoff Mann combines his dexterity on the drums with his rich musical heritage (he is the son of jazz musician Herbie Mann). They gave an excellent demonstration of all of this during their explosive concert at this year’s edition of Primavera Sound and will do so again at the end of October, when they will debut in Spanish venues: this will happen on Tuesday 30th October in Moby Dick in Madrid, and Wednesday 31st in Razzmatazz 3 in Barcelona. Get ready for an extra dose of contortions, hymns and necromancy.
